This is a bittersweet post for us to write. We (Sally & Robin) have transitioned CPG Data Tip Sheet to Goods Intelligence – more on that in a bit. When we started the CPG Data Tip Sheet back in November, 2012 we could not have imagined that almost 14 years later we would have over 5,000 followers and receive such great feedback from so many of you! It has been very fulfilling for us to provide the industry with useful and user-friendly advice, definitions and examples on how to best use syndicated data in the CPG/FMCG industry.
It has been really interesting seeing the evolution (revolution??) in the data available, frequency and tools especially in the last 5 years or so! We are both now retired from our own consulting practices which makes it much more difficult to keep up with all the changes, not just in data and tools but also in the manufacturer and retailer landscapes. Fortunately, analytical concepts do stay the same and AI is not likely to replace truly great analysts and strategic thinkers who know how to best enhance their own talents with AI.
The good news is that CPG Data Tip Sheet will continue in the very capable hands of Kevin Lehmann, an industry veteran with 15+ years of best-in-class consulting, finance, and data capabilities. Kevin began his consumer career at Nielsen in January 2013 – just months after we launched the site – working on the GSK (now Haleon) account. And he credits the Tip Sheet examples and glossaries with helping him get up to speed quickly. Kevin was then recruited to Wall Street where he covered the global CPG and restaurant sectors for six years. He later returned to the new NielsenIQ briefly for a strategic role based in Europe. Today, Kevin is an independent advisor, consultant, and investor – helping brands with data, finance and strategy, developing tools like Planogrammer.com and cpgIQ.com, and writing about the industry.
You can read his great recent blog post on the current state of Big Food and this post on understanding US population projections — there was a lot in here that was news to us who are enjoying retirement and no longer as engaged in the industry.
The web address will stay the same (www.cpgdatainsights.com) and existing posts including the Glossary will remain available. And…several posts that “have not aged well” will likely get updated based on what is currently available from the key data suppliers. Please click on the opt in button below to receive notification of any new and updated posts. (We are not transferring our current subscriber list so you must resubscribe to continue to receive new and revised posts via email.)
Thank you for your support and best wishes in your continued careers in CPG and/or analytics.
